Columbia Sex Ban
Generally speaking, using sex as a weapon is a bad thing. I think it even tells us in the Bible that we are not to withhold sex out of spite or as bribery. Of course, you Bible scholars can probably tell me what the Bible actually says, as opposed to my vague referencing. But I think these Columbian women are on to something here. Their gun-toting boyfriends are not afraid of the law. In fact, they’re pretty much not afraid of anything. Except the absence of sex. I mean, c’mon – that’s enough to scare just about anybody. These women got together, and decided as a group to withhold sex from their husbands/boyfriends/lovers until their men decided to give up the guns. Rock on, sisters, rock on.

I don’t want to badmouth a band which many people enjoy. I, in fact, enjoy the song “Du Has.” It’s rocky, it’s angry, it’s a great driving song when the world has royally pissed you off. Of course, all of us Americans think that the means is “You hate me,” when in fact, that is kind of up for debate, seeing as how the German word for “hate” is very close to the word for “have.” But that is all beside the point.
Have any of you looked up the English translations of their songs? I mean, seriously. Here’s an example:

Lost
I honestly don’t know how much longer I can make it until the Season 3 Premiere of Lost. The premiere date is two weeks later than almost every other show’s. Every NBC show pretty much premieres September 18th-22nd. But no, not Lost. They have to torture their fans until OCTOBER 4TH. That’s just plain mean. All we want to know is where Jack, Kate and Sawyer are being kept. Where Michael and Walt are going. If Eko, Locke and Desmond are still alive. I don’t think that’s asking too much.
Law and Order: Criminal Intent Season Premiere
Eames gets kidnapped by a serial killer. ‘Nuff said.
Thin Models and Discrimination
At a runway show in Madrid (I believe), models that were too thin were turned away. The guy in charge decided that models should be promoting a healthy body image, because so many women and young girls strive to look like what they see on TV. They had medics on hand, who calculated the girls’ BMI and if it was too low, they turned them away. I was actually stunned when I saw this article. Part of me protests that this is discrimination and those models have a right for legal action. But on the other hand, they have a responsibility (a social one) to show that it’s okay to be healthy. That you don’t need to anorexic for fashions to fit you. That you don’t need to look sickly and like death warmed over to be able walk the runway.
Save Darfur Rally
NYC. Central Park. Sunday, September 17th. 2-5pm. Be there. The genocide needs to stop, and a U.N. peacekeeping force needs to go in. Since we seem to be so interested in butting into other countries’ business, how about we butt in where we’re actually needed?
