Matthew 11:25-30

Sometimes we want to believe that if we love God and call on Him, nothing bad will happen to us. But nowhere does the Bible say that. Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest - and sometimes Jesus is the only one who can. If you are willing to trust and be obedient, you will have a lighter burden. God's yoke only looks heavy because it's His will, not yours. But you'll find that it is easy. Submission to God and surrender mean trust. If you try to carry your own yoke, it won't fit right and it will chafe and hurt you. But God's yoke was made to rest comfortably on your shoulders - it was made to fit you. It's getting to be that time of year when we become busy again. We need to focus on who we're doing it all for. That is a matter of discipleship. We are all built differently - whether we like to be busy or we like to have a lot of down time. That's fine - be who you are. But are you doing what you believe? Look at how you spend your time - is that what you are? It's not just about getting by. It's about making a difference that means something. There's something within your reach - that's only within your reach. There's someone in your life that you are in a position to share God's love with. Go to God, rest, catch your breath. Then work with God to move forward, to become what He made you to be, to make a difference.

Romans 8:25-39

We need to stop regarding people for what they have done or what they have failed to do, but for what they have suffered. One of the most prevalent messages in the Bible is one of endurance. God has not brought us this far to be destroyed or to abandon us. He who has begun a good work in you will continue to do that work until the day of Jesus Christ. God will make a way when there is no way. Don't let fear dominate your mind and emotions. Your response to the things that happen to you ismore important than anything that will happen to you. Be anxious in nothing. God will meet ALL your needs. Take small steps - do the good you know. Just keep moving forward, even if they're baby steps. Determine to be hopeful.

As I listened to this sermon, a song popped into my head. It's called "Storm" by Lifehouse:

how long have I
been in this storm
so overwhelmed by the ocean's shapeless form
water's getting harder to tread
with these waves crashing over my head

if I could just see you
everything will be alright
if I'd see you
the darkness will turn to light

and I will walk on water
and you will catch me if I fall
and I will get lost into your eyes
and everything will be alright
and everything will be alright

I know you didn't
bring me out here to drown
so why am I 10 feet under and upside down
barely surviving has become my purpose
cause I'm so used to living underneath the surface

if I could just see you
everything will be alright
if I see you
the darkness will turn to light

and I will walk on water
and you will catch me if I fall
and I will get lost into your eyes
and everything will be alright

and I will walk on water
you will catch me if I fall
and I will get lost into your eyes
and everything will be alright
I know everything is alright
everything's alright

In other news, my mom has a job interview on Tuesday, and it would really be a blessing for her to get it, so please pray for her. Other than that, I don't have any updates on my fun and exciting life (insert eye roll). I got nominated for the Chlack awards, and I seriously want to thank all of you who nominated me and my stories. You have no idea how much you brightened my day today.

1 Corinthians 10:23

Trials will come. This is not our home. But fear not, for I am with you - the promise that every Christian carries with them.

Love the world. Love its people. But know that your citizenship is to a better place. Taht by faith we will inherit something that will never perish. Give up what you can't keep to gain what you cannot lose.

How different would your life be if you honestly asked God to be a part of the moments of your day? God, open our eyes. We're stepping over Lazarus, looking for someone to help.

In every relationship you have, you will influence them either one step closer or one step farther away from Christ. Every person you encounter.

We live in an age of entitlement. But rights and entitlement have always been a concern of humans. It was the same in Paul's day with the Christians, the Christian Jews, the Jews and the Pagans. He preaches personal freedom. With the Jews, he could follow their rules. With the pagans he was could eat their meat. But he was woried that freedom would turn to license. Just because you CAN do anything, doesn't mean you should. Nobody should work for their own good, but for the good of others.

We can drive each other insane with our Christian peculiarities and individual rules. They are important to our conscience, but are not for us to pound other people with. Whatever you do, do it for the Glory of God. Remember who you belong to. Remember who died for you. Do not cause anyone to stumble.

On a somewhat different note, my church is raising money to build and equip a nurse's station in a school for AIDS orphans in Africa. Our goal was $5,000 and today a member gave $1000 on the spot. God bless them.

(Forgot to do this yesterday)

Psalm 4.

Heart. Mind. Strength. We need all three. If we're missing one, we're missing something vastly important. Knowledge without feeling, feeling without knowing, doing without feeling and knowledge - none of that works. At least not for long.

David had learned long ago that he was just a speck, that there was something bigger than him. He knew he could worry or he could trust - and he chose to trust.

"Oh my God." This isn't some collective prayer. My God. You are the only one who can save me. "Righteous" - no matter the outcome, God is still righteous.

And then he tries to appeal to the men who have betrayed him. Even when Saul was trying to kill him, David refused to kill him. He knew that Saul was God's anointed - just as he is now.

God takes sides - He has set apart the righteous and holy. He will hear when they call to him, when the wicked and unrighteous oppress and attack them.

"In your anger do not sing." He turns to his zealous and righteous friends/followers. DOn't try to get ahead of God and take things into your own hand. "Meditate in your heart and be still." Do the good you know and trust. Wait. He will come.

Many were asking "what's the point?" They knew that David was God's anointed and yet he was on the run from his own son. But David asked God to shine His light upon them. There's a fork in the road that we will all have to face and make a choice. David has decided to trust the LORD no matter what. He says that God has given him greater joy in the storm than the other have had in their seasons of abundance.

So David sleeps. Why? Because he knew he was never in control. It was never about him. He knows that God is in control. And that only God could make him dwell in safety. God can't fall short. God is loving. God is powerful. God is merciful. God is perfect. God is righteous. God is.

Imagine: to love and trust God enough to sleep in a storm with joy in your heart.

These are the notes I took during the sermon this morning. I'm going to start posting them. First of all, it will make me think about them again. Second of all, maybe some of you might find them interesting/enlightening. Any comments/questions are welcome.I apologize if parts don't make sense - some of them are direct responses to things my pastor said and others are tangent thoughts.

1Corinthians 9:19-22 - This sermon was about loving people where they are and showing them faith and the love of God. If we truly love them, how can we not share this valuable treasure we have?

Complacency. We go on as though life is normal. But things are not normal. We need to realize what we have. But how do you share it with people who know your faith and just don't care?
But if we as Christians, who have God as our comfort, find life tough, then hhow hard must it be for those who don't know God?
Paul became everything to everyone in order to win them for God. People train from childhood to win a medal that will eventually rot or rust - why can't we pursue eternal life with that same determination and single-mindedness? Where is my passion? Why can't I be obsessed with 24 and Lost and movies and music and my friends, and yet not become enthralled with God?
I tend to push people away who I find to lead immoral lives. I look down on them. And that's not righ.t I need to be in the world but not of it. Can I love them where they are? Can I put aside my rules to reach out and get to know them? I need to meet them where they are with the love of Christ. It starts with loving people for who they are. Love them unconditionally even if they never turn to God.
