5 Kisses (2)

The second time he kissed her was after Paul Raines died. His face still stung from Audrey’s slaps and he found himself wandering aimlessly onto the floor. He looked around without really seeing, the voices around him faded into a jumbled mass of murmurings. Looking down, he saw that his hands were shaking uncontrollably.
Then, as he raised his eyes again, he saw her. She was standing at her station, glaring at the computer screen before her. Her blonde hair was swept back in a low messy ponytail. Biting her lip, she tapped angrily on her keyboard.
Taking a deep breath, he strode over to her quickly, ignoring everyone else around him. Without a word he grabbed her elbow and practically dragged her off the floor and down the hallway, away from the noise and eyes. He ignored her protests, pulling her after him until he found a deserted hallway. Turning her around her pushed her up against the wall.
“Jack, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” she snapped.
Tangling one hand in her hair and wrapping one around her waist, Jack pulled her mouth to his hungrily. He ran his tongue along her bottom lip, begging her to let him in. Nipping slightly with his teeth he caused her to gasp, and used the opportunity to slide in, tasting her, drinking her in. He pushed her harder into the wall, attempting to bring their bodies even closer.
Chloe moaned in frustration as Jack’s hand slid under her shirt, running up along her bare back. She wrapped her arms around his neck and ground herself into him, forcing a groan from him. She kept kissing him until she couldn’t breathe, her whole body tingling with the feel of his body pressed up against hers.
They finally had to pull back to breathe. Jack ran his lips lightly over her jaw line and down her neck, unwilling to break their contact. Chloe shivered in his arms as she rested her head in the crook of his neck, catching her breath. As his lips came back to hers to continue their assault, she pushed him back gently, forcing their bodies apart.
“No, Jack,” she said firmly.
“Chloe-“
“No,” she repeated. “You’re with Audrey.”
“Not anymore,” he spat out. “I just killed her husband. I think it’s fair to say that we’re over.”
“But I’m not your safety net, Jack. At least not for this. You don’t want me. You just want to forget her.”
“Chloe, that’s not true.”
She smiled at him sadly and rested her hand against his cheek. He closed his eyes at the contact, placing his hand over hers.
“I missed you,” she whispered.
He opened his eyes to look at her. “I missed you too,” he said truthfully.
Nodding, she leaned in and kissed him gently on the cheek. “I need to get back out there,” she told him.
She started to walk away, but Jack kept his hold on her hand, forcing her to turn back to him. She gave him another sad smile, and he could see that she was fighting back tears. Her eyes pleaded with him to let her go, to let her get herself back together so that she could go do her job. He nodded and then squeezed her hand tightly before letting it fall.
