Prompt: Girls' Night Out
Chloe squirmed nervously as she and Jack stood in line to get on the roller coaster. Her stomach had been in knots all night, only now it wasn’t because it was her first date with Jack. As she stared up at the rollercoaster before them, she felt her panic rising. She hated roller coasters and had steadfastly refused to go on them since she was a kid.
Jack tried not to fidget. The date had been going well thus far, but he still couldn’t work up the courage to even hold her hand, never mind actually kiss her. The awkwardness that he had feared wasn’t there, and they had been having a great time laughing and talking the whole night. But all that couldn’t stop him from feeling like he was a teenager again – his palms were sweating and his stomach was doing flip-flops.
And then it was their turn to get on the ride. Jack stepped on first, and therefore missed how shaky Chloe’s steps were as she tried to control her breathing. They sat down, and it was then that Jack noticed just how pale she was.
“Are you alright?” he asked, worry etched on his face.
She gave him a tight smile. “Rides like this scare me,” she admitted.
“Why didn’t you tell me? We don’t have to do this.”
Chloe shrugged. “You seemed really excited about it. And I can usually handle anything as long as I know you’re there…” Realizing that she had said too much, she looked away. “Besides, it’s a little late now,” she commented as the ride began to move.
They began to pick up speed, and Jack did the only thing he could think of to calm Chloe down – he took her hand. As he squeezed it reassuringly, she gave him a warm smile. There was still fear in her eyes, but there was also trust, and he knew that she would be okay.
When the ride finally came to a stop, Chloe was still clutching his hand, but there was a huge smile on her face. She wouldn’t say that she loved roller coasters now, but she certainly wasn’t as afraid of them either. Their restraints loosened and they stood up, Jack leading her onto the platform and then away from the ride. Now that he had finally taken her hand, Jack wasn’t willing to let it go. He gave Chloe a shy smile as they continued walking through the fair, his heart brimming as he watched her blush slightly.
A sudden peal of thunder was the only warning they had before the rain came down in torrents. People began screaming and running for cover. As Chloe went to follow, Jack tugged on her hand, pulling her straight into his chest. She looked at him in confusion, frowning when she saw the boyish grin on his face.
Opening her mouth to ask him what the hell he was doing, Chloe was cut off by the sudden pressure of his lips on hers. She kissed him back fervently, sliding her tongue into his mouth, her arms wrapping around his neck and her body plastering itself to his in the downpour. Inwardly she was laughing at the whole thing – for her and Jack Bauer to be doing something as normal and cheesy as sharing their first kiss in the rain was just ridiculous. But there they were, and there wasn’t anywhere else she’d rather be.
