Title: Snowfall
Pairing: Mac/Michelle
Rating: FRK
Prompt: Brooding
Disclaimer: I own nothing. Seriously.
"Seriously?"
Mac turned from his spot by the window, frowning slightly as he saw Michelle standing in his doorway.
"Excuse me?"
She sighed, crossing her arms and leaning against the doorframe. "It's a Friday night, the rest of your team is out celebrating, and you're sitting in your office. Alone. Brooding."
"I'm not brooding."
"You are," she countered, moving further in the office. "Why else would you be sitting here all alone?"
Instead of answering, he turned the question around on her. "What about you? You closed the case with everyone else. You should be out celebrating with them."
She shrugged, coming up to stand beside him. "Someone has to keep an eye on you."
Mac raised an eyebrow at that. "And that's your job?"
She shrugged again, not looking at him, but instead staring out over the city. "Would you rather I were someone else?"
He watched her for a moment. "No." Turning his attention back to the window, he nodded towards the city. "I take it you didn't see a lot of snow in L.A."
Michelle smiled at that. "No, we didn't. It's pretty, though." She looked up at him out of the corner of her eye. "All these years in New York, and you still like to watch the snow?"
Mac nodded. "I do."
She hesitated slightly, but then regained her confidence. "Maybe you'd like some company?"
He gave her a small smile before walking around the desk and pulling a chair around. Setting it behind her, he then moved across the room to flip the lights off. When he came back, he lowered himself into his own chair, both of them facing the window. They watched the snow fall in silence, blanketing the city and somehow muffling the incessant noise of it all. Michelle glanced up at Mac's face, faintly lit by the lights outside and she smiled – she'd take this over drinks with the others any day.
